If 2021 taught us anything, it’s that we can adapt to anything. As a company, our employees have adapted to working from home, the office and anywhere in between with the limitations of COVID-19. However, we know that our environment isn’t adapting well to our impact as human beings, with issues such as global warming and animal extinction becoming wrongly advanced.
At Workplace Interiors Co, we made the decision to help our employees offset their day to day carbon footprint by partnering with the incredible Bristol based company, Ecologi. We’ve been working alongside the environmentalists for over a year now, and whilst our donations have helped some incredible projects, we know there’s still a long way to go.
Who are Ecologi?
Ecologi are an ecological company who partner with individuals and larger organisations to help them offset their carbon footprint. This is achieved through amazing initiatives such as tree planting and investments in actions and charities towards positive climate change.
As an active member of Ecologi, we’re proud to share that we help take care of our planet with the following actions:
- Carbon Reduction – We support a variety of projects that aim to reduce the volume of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. These projects will be certified by Gold Standard or by the Verified Carbon Standard.
- Tree Planting – To prevent ecological collapse and help mitigate CO2, Ecologi plant thousands of trees on our behalf. We keep track of our own forest and, with their scheme, we currently have 7,116 trees planted in just over a year.
- Sustainable Project Support – With direction from Ecologi, our donations support sustainable projects across the world, including initiatives to generate clean electricity from hydropower in India and preservation of the Amazonian rainforest in Brazil.
In addition, we are continually learning about and developing our ideologies surrounding our climate to understand more and more ways that we can set low carbon goals.
Why it’s Important to Us
The build environment that our co-brands specialise in play a huge role in the climate crisis. This sector alone is responsible for 40% of the UK’s total carbon footprint, with fit out businesses sending around 300 tonnes of building materials to litter our landfills every single day.
As industry leaders and human beings that care about our climate, we know it’s important to lead by example. Our long term goal is to operate on the ideal balance between the volume of greenhouse emissions produced and the volume we’re able to remove from the atmosphere.
Our Sustainability Plan
We understand that we solve climate change overnight. That’s why we’re committed to developing achievable and measurable goals with our evolving sustainability plan. Whilst this is continually reviewed, some of our current operations include:
- Investments & Charity – Alongside Ecologi, we also work with Moor Trees and IT Schools Africa. By investing in these incredible organisations, we are able to offset every employee’s carbon footprint, continue restoring our native forests and responsibly recycle our old equipment.
- Office & Operations – When it comes to our day-to-day actions at work, we partner with COCO+ to help our vans responsible refuel with their carbon offset scheme. Our partnership with Printwaste also means we’re a zero landfill office!
- Products & Services – We’re passionate about taking care of our planet and want our customers to also be able to make sustainable choices when it comes to our products and services. We’re selective with the suppliers we work with to ensure our values are aligned and can offer direction on sustainable workplace solutions.
