Now, he focuses his time and skills in all things WordPress, from web development to responsive web design. We managed to find time in Alex’s busy day to find out more about his role at Search Station…

Hi Alex. Tell us about a few of the responsibilities of your role!

Putting it briefly, I oversee the delivery of web based projects. This includes websites, web apps and website integrations whereby I’ll link websites with a third party system such as CRM.

I am also responsible for the regular maintenance, vital security and integrity of all the sites Search Station hosts.

What might a typical working day look like for you?

On a day to day basis, I will spend my time creating design mock-ups and prototypes that are needed from client requests, working with the Search Station Development team to both build and implement new features or builds of complete sites.

I also review code written by the other developers at Search Station to ensure it’s top quality and of a high standard. At any given moment, I have to be responsive to solving problems with any technical issues that may arise.

Every day, I work closely with a number of people within Search Station to gain insights into where improvements can be made, whether this is in the form of better user experience for website visitors or internal efficiency measures that can be improved by bespoke software or web applications.

What skills do you believe are necessary to complete your job?

For web development, it’s the ability to think logically and problem solve very quickly. It’s also important to have a solid grasp on the core programming languages we use day to day, such as JavaScript, jQuery, PhP, HTML, SCSS and CSS.

For web design, it’s the ability to understand the best way to communicate with the target audience and use design to help influence a user’s decision.

What do you enjoy most about working at Search Station?

When it comes to web design, it’s designing and building something from scratch that provides real value. There is no better feeling than knowing something you’ve created is helping a business achieve their goals and thrive.

Do you have any advice for anyone who might be looking to further their career in web development?

Nail the basics and build a solid foundation with a group of core coding languages. Take the opportunity to use free resources as much as possible to find the answers. Start building something, even if it’s just for fun! Remember, if you’re not making mistakes when coding, you aren’t progressing as a developer.
