Copywriter: Ali Townsend

With the ever changing algorithm, ranking on Google or Bing has never been harder. Luckily, our SEO experts share their detailed insights and keep up to date with the best SEO practices to help our clients rank on search engine pages, ultimately improving their leads.

Our Copywriter, Ali, has a way with words, using her degree in English Literature and background in journalism and PR to produce engaging and purposeful content that enhances SEO and ensures our client websites deliver essential ROI.

We talk to Ali to discuss some of her tips and tricks when writing engaging content that ranks.

Hi Ali! Can you tell us about your role as a Copywriter?

All my everyday tasks revolve around content. No matter what I’m writing – be it copy for web pages, product copy, blogs, Google ads, email marketing campaigns, social media – it’s my responsibility to ensure everything is written with excellent grammar, purpose and with the best SEO practices in mind to produce effective results across multiple client projects within Search Station.

Research is a large part of my responsibilities as a Copywriter. For example, for each project I’ll spend time looking into keyword research. This involves looking at the highest ranking keywords commonly typed into Google that are relevant to each client’s business. I can then ensure this is incorporated into the copy I’m working on to optimise the website’s ranking for this search.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

With so many different mediums available for businesses to channel their effective content on, I’m not sure there is a ‘typical working day’ as a copywriter!

My tasks vary day to day; one day I’ll write engaging social media posts that boost brand awareness and increase CTRs to a desired landing page, another day I might be writing an insightful blog article that inspires and informs a client’s customer, with the overall aim to end up in Google’s featured snippets.

My workload can include ad hoc tasks (content needed on a project by project basis), as well as frequent content for our clients that are part of our SEO lead generation monthly packages.

What skills do you think are necessary to be successful in your role?

To produce successful content, it’s necessary to have in-depth knowledge on the best SEO practices to ensure content drives results.

Each business is unique, so it’s also incredibly important to be able to capture the client’s individual tone of voice amongst this. There isn’t much point in writing engaging content with optimised SEO techniques if it’s not directed towards the client’s intended audience as you won’t produce accurate leads. Working as part of a digital marketing agency, you’ll need the skills to adapt your tone of voice to represent each individual client brand.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

I enjoy how creative and dynamic the work I produce is. I enjoy formulative creative concepts, telling stories and outputting this in various forms of engaging content.

It’s always satisfying to see a client’s SEO ranking improve, but it’s also nice to hear customer’s feedback say, ‘that article was so helpful when I was making my decision’.

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to boost their SEO rankings?

Be patient. It’s common knowledge that SEO isn’t always a quick win, but it’s worth it in the end, benefiting businesses in multiple ways and having a huge impact on ROI.
